Redd Foxx was born here in St. Louis in the early 20s. At an early age he moved to New York to pursue a career as a comedian. He was one of the best stand up comedians but for a younger generation he is known as Fred Sanford. Sanford and Son was one of the funniest television shows at its time. His classic role in Harlem Nights as Bennie, the blind Old Gangsta. At the time of his death he was starring on another television show, The Royal Family, with close friend Della Reese. Ironically he died on the set of a heart attack. Redd Foxx was most famous for clutching his chest and faking a heart attack on the television show Sanford and Son.
