VIP SUITE: Ebony Eyez

We all know how the hip-hop industry is a male dominated profession. Sure we’ve had our taste of the MC Lyte’s and Lil Kim’s in the business. We bobbed our head and swayed to their music because they were speaking from a female’s point of view. However, they weren’t from the Midwest so their swing wasn’t from our point of view all the way. The first time I heard In Your Face at the club the ladies in the crowd went nuts. It was just what the ladies in the Lou wanted to hear, her lyrics were hard and in your face. She could rap along side of males and hold her own. Since then she has split ways with Capitol Records and Track Boyz, let the record show that she is the only female rapper out of STL with a nationally released album, and now you can add label owner to her resume she owns Lady Lion Ent. We had to get an interview with Ms. Ebony Eyez who is set to release her new mix tape Nice Girlz Finish Last which is out and ready today.

Suite: we know you are currently residing in Atlanta, but what’s the first thing you do when you get back here.

Ebony: When I touch down in the Lou, I always go to the chinamen first and foremost. Then the studio, and after that family and friends

Suite: Your mix tape is out today so what can a buyer expect to hear different from you this time around?

Ebony: This time I am showing more of my lady lion if you will. Meaning it’s very aggressive, showing that as women we are definitely a force to be reckoned with, and this time around I mean business. First album I was more so just happy for the opportunity to share my music with the world. I was so naive to how the business works. I had people around me that didn’t have my best interest at heart. I had to learn that the hard way.

Suite: Whats your favorite song off the mix tape?

Ebony: It’s the last song Lame. I wrote it for my protégé Teiona. She’s a 12 year old rapper from KC and she is bonkers on the mic. That song resonates with me a lot because she is the future

Suite: If you could work with any other STL artist that you haven’t already, who would it be?

Ebony: I pretty much am open to do music with anybody as long as its good music

Suite: How would you sum up the message that Ebony Eyez is telling the people?

Ebony: I just want people to know that I am music. I live, eat, and breathe music 24/7. I just want to share the world through my eyez, and hopefully people can relate. I want to be the voice of women and what we represent. But more importantly I want to take the necessary steps to become successful and leave my mark

There you have it boys and girls. Ms. Eyez is allowing you a glimpse into her world through her music. Like most entertainers she’s had a taste of the good and the bad in the industry. Now with her being her own boss she can shoot her star as far as she pleases in the galaxy and we wish her nothing but success in the future. An email with these Jordans with Michael Jackson pictures was sent to me today. I'm not sure if they are real are not. But just wow if they are. It hasn't been a month yet and I am sure more MJ merchandise that his estate will not see a dime of will surface. They are kind of hawt though. If they are the real deal expect to pay a pretty penny. If they are at your neighborhood flea market you can cough up probably no more than fifty bucks.

President Obama In On The All Star Madness

As the streets of St. Louis were crowded with tons of people. Highway 70 stood at a complete stand still. The only cars driving the highway from the airport to Busch Stadium was President Obama's entourage and St. Louis City and County's finest. He was here to throw the first pitch to St. Louis Cardinals player Albert Pujols last night at the All Star Game. His pitch was ok but that walk of the mound was hawt! Clearly the epitome of "cool".

Nelly's Midwest Swing

In many interviews we have heard Nelly talk about how he wanted a career in baseball. Well Monday night he was given his chance at Busch Stadium during Monday's Night All-Star festivities.

The rap game is hard as hell to break into. Yeah your beat may be hot, and your rhymes are tight to death but only the strong survive in the jungle known as the industry. Some guys with they sickest lyrics don’t come close to having their songs played on the radio. So what’s a chick to do, when she knows her rap game is tight? She forms a group with two other females that are equally nice with the mic. And June 5th is born. They've heard it all how they could be models are some nice arm candy for a fella or two. Don't let the looks fool you, they are serious about their craft. From an impromptu performance of their song On My Worst Day, to just spitting some lyrics from famed female rapper Lil Kim. June 5th wants the world to know who they are. Any adventure needs a stepping stone and June 5th wants their hometown to give them that extra boost. So we sat down with the trio to help spread the word across the Lou on just who June 5th is?
suiteSTL: How did you meet and form the group
June 5th: Brooke and I (Tiffany) are cousins and real cousins at that!!! We hooked up with Scar we’ve known her for a while she's my best friend. It all felt natural for us to just hook up like that.

suiteSTL: How did you get your name?
June 5th: We were throwing a lot of stuff out there and Scar just said why not June 5th being that it was the day the group came together. Two days later we were in the studio recording

suiteSTL: Here in St. Louis how do you think people take seeing three women on stage rapping.

June 5th: We get a lot of love in the Lou we love performing here. But you have to think bigger than just St. Louis. You should leave and travel around just to make your skin thicker.

suiteSTL: If someone was to label your sound what stamp would it receive?

June 5th: There's no defining June5th. We have our own style and our own flow. We all have three different backgrounds that we talk about, so I know that we each touch different people for different reasons.

suiteSTL: Now the rap game is mainly men, how do men that you date handle you three being around that atmosphere.

June5th: They don't handle it well, and that's a problem for us. Any guy who we would be with would have to be totally confident.

suiteSTL: What keeps this group on its grind?

June5th: Every time they say we can't. That helps us remember that every single moment is our time. It's our right now

Interviewing the ladies of June5th would have to go down as one of our favorites because of the great vibe we had with them. As we sat around St. Louis Bread Co and talked it felt good to have five beautiful sisters at a table and not feel even the smallest bit of hate from either sides. They give off a vibe of determination and super star status already but were down to earth like you were a family picnic. Don't sleep on these ladies St. Louis. They are on their grind no doubt, with collaborations with Snoop, Jim Jones, and Akon they don't plan on going down without a fight. And Even on their WORST DAY they hold their own in a what some may say is a man's world.

U C Me Even When I Don't C U

They set the city on fire at the turn of the new century. You couldn't listen to radio or watch t.v. without Derrty ENT popping up at least once an hour. Hands down STL became known because of them, yes artist had been out before but no one was really checking for the city until Country Grammar popped. Right after the release of that multi-platinum cd The St. Lunatics dropped their debut album Free City. You know you couldn't deny the STL vibe when the beat of Midwest Swing pounded through your speakers. I can't front and say Diz Iz Da Life wasn't my anthem even though I was broke as hell. But that was The Lunatics drawing you into their life and it felt good bobbing my head to it. We sat down with Murphy Lee and Kyjuan, brothers from the group who are very much still on their grind. Sitting down with these 2 brothers we didn't know what to expect or knew what type of reaction we would get to our questions but it didn't take long before Murphy Lee and Kyjuan opened up and told a story that went much deeper than the "U C ME" and "Derrty Ent". While their fame has come from music and continue to be associated by a label it was evident that these Lunatics are much more than beats, rhymes and colorful attire.

suiteSTL: Are there any rumors about the "beef" in the St. Lunatics that you would like to clear up?

Kyjuan: there is no beef between us, we are a group but we also have solo careers. So when people don't see us together all the time they naturally assume we are beefing

Murphy Lee: We perform together and then the next day someone will say they didn't see so and so on stage. The problem is we don't explain those kinds of unanswered questions.

suiteSTL: We put up a poll on our site asking who was the hottest rapper from St. Louis and you won Murph. How does that make you feel to have that kind of support from your hometown.

Murphy Lee: It feels good because I never considered myself the tightest in St. Louis. I just get in the booth and do me. I'm glad my city is supporting me, now I need that kind of support worldwide.

suiteSTL: We love showing love to everyone from the city, our readers however have a love/hate relationship with Nelly. A lot of times they say he ain't for the city anymore. If someone said that to you how would you address it?

Kyjuan: I would say Why? why don't you like him? They really have no valid reason not to. They say they hate him but in the next breath he walk in the club and you trying to dap him out or the ladies are trying to say hi

Murphy Lee: It's always someone hating, but the haters are still outnumbered. They still say hi to him even when they hating on him.

suiteSTL: What's your favorite Lunatics song ever?

Kyjuan: Man that's hard to say I don't have a favorite for real. I love them all but the first song on the Free City album I love a lot and was just listening to it the other night before a show

Murphy Lee: That's like choosing your favorite child out of your kids. It's the art of it so it's a picture painting on all of them. Now one might have sold better than the other but one isn't better.

suiteSTL: Do you still feel like you have something to prove in the rap game?

Murphy Lee: Nothing at all to prove. For some this is a hustle, some do it for the love of music, and for others it is a career. I can't go back to working a 9-5. I was so much younger than them and they did everything for me. I am my own man now so I have to prove to myself that I can do this and it's time Murphy Lee to grow up and do THIS and I like growing. The only thing that I have to prove is that I'm Boss.

From explaining their reason of not eating meat "Live people shouldn't eat anything dead" Murphy Lee and Kyjuan both let us into their world behind the music. Lee went into detail with great passion about his lifestyle choices on being a vegetarian and let us in on a secret about an upcoming project to inform the world on why he lives the way he does. If you think we were in a room with Murphy Lee and didn't ask him for the exact release date of his much anticipated album then you are crazy. No matter how many times we asked or how slick we tried to be with the questions, he remained quiet on details only informing us that he's releasing a DVD with a free Album. Murph seemed to recognize the respect he has of the streets but never boasted about being considering the best by many of his fans. While Kyjuan may be the most Colorful person with his gear and personality, there was no confusion on what his role is and how much respect he had for his younger brother who he considers an industry best. And if you think all that Green is just a fad, then think again because this man has always had his own image and personality. After telling us that "Green wasn't he is favorite color but he was green's favorite person" all we could do was sit back smile, respect his style, sense of humor and a personality that makes you want to be his friend. Kyjuan also stays busy behind the scenes with many projects including the handheld HD video cam, which made us have think were we being recorded. When asked what do you want suiteSTL readers to know, Kyjuan quickly responded "I'm Human" which prompted laughter and a few jokes from Murphy Lee but we understand the answer. They stress while people may talk about them not being personable, or complaining that they don't know enough about them, Kyjuan wants nothing more than to convey they he is a regular guy. Well may not regular but he is human! When we threw the same question to Murph he was all smiles as he said "I'm Free" responding to his current label status which he refers to "an Independent Situation." Murphy Lee who had the calm voice during the entire interview only came to the edge of his sit when he cleared up the rumors of the Lunatics beefing and how he doesn't like people comparing him to others in the group. He even challenged that if we had 10 haters on the blog (you know who you are) and they hung out with them for a day they would change their opinion of the group and realize how down to earth they really are, including the groups biggest star, Nelly. We didn't need to spend a day with them to understand just how real they were because halfway through this interview the respect we already had for them as artist, grew into respect for the two as men. 

The Lunatics long awaited album titled "CITY FREE" will drop this summer along with Murphy Lee's DVD (which will include a free CD). And from the music we've heard so far from the sampler from the St. Lunatics should kill all doubt and send the haters to the corner to recollect their thoughts. 

Ocean's 7 Mix Tape Release Party

You still have time to high-tail it to the ATL if you want to support Nelly with his new mix tape. The party is tonight and the mix tape will be out on Friday. I have watched the Ocean's 7 crew on YouTube and please believe their conversations are something else. Definitely for the grown up crowd. I was searching the net and our ATL sista in blogging Necolebitchie had the scoop on the party tonight.

V.I.P. Suite: Pleasure P

When we got a call from Pleasure P, we were prepared with questions, but didn’t know what to expect from this young man. Although still young in age (compared to us knocking at 30’s door) his music and sound took a leap into maturity with Boyfriend #2, making young girls and women alike take notice of his work. He may have got his start with the former group Pretty Rickey but Pleasure P made it clear that's the past and he’s focused on the future which includes a new album on June 9th.

suiteSTL: Your songs are targeted towards women so how do the fellas relate to you?
PLEASURE P: Songs like “I Did You Wrong” They can tell their woman hey both of us made mistakes, we should stick this out and make it work. The fellas can relate to as well and there a plenty of more songs like that on the new album.

suiteSTL:

What artist could influenced you to sing?
PLEASURE P: Static Major, he wrote a lot of great songs, REST IN PEACE.

suiteSTL: If you could change radio for a day, what sounds would you like to hear more of?
PLEASURE P: More Pleasure P (said with a laughter but I know he wasn’t playing)

suiteSTL: What was your inspiration behind the songs on your new album?
PLEASURE P: THE LADIES…I just want to say things that nobody is saying, like the song Boyfriend #2. Nobody ever said that but sometimes in life it’s really like that. I’m Encouraging guys to step they game up and treat they woman how they suppose to be treated. Because what they won’t do, there a lot of men that will and are a lot of guys out there that don’t mind being that man on the side.

suiteSTL: Have you ever been the guy on the side?
PLEASURE P: I’ve been the guy on the side, in the front, the back, all around!

***takes deep breathe and wipes forehead cause after the “ grown man I will put it down on you” answer he threw me off my game and almost made a sister blush***

With an album dropping in just weeks. Music isn’t the only thing on his mind either, he’s working with Cuda Love (hometown Nelly's former manager) for his new clothing line, Jean Addicts. Ladies they go up to a size 16 so if you rocking that thick meat for the summer you can get you some of that good fashion too. He’s already worked with St. Louis native Jibbs and says that he wouldn’t mind working with more St. Louis artist in the future, including Shorty Tha Kid. The album "THE INTRODUCTION OF MARCUS COOPER" drops on June 9th and from what I’ve heard so far, you won’t be disappointed when you buy your copy. A Look Into The Mind Of Mr. Wellz Fargo

“MAN AIN’T NOBODY IN MY REARVIEW,

I STAND ALONE IN THIS THING” Slim 2009

Arrogant? Maybe but why should he not be. Since when do people throw free parties all night long for everyone? Slim aka Wellz Fargo is on top of his game and he knows it. And yeah he feeling himself, but wouldn’t you if you could single handily shut the city down. If Slim is throwing a party then you can bet your life that the place will be packed. I remember when the color themed party was made famous by Diddy, who also use to be a party promoter. Once Slim got a whiff of that, he made it his own. There was the red party, the black party, green party, red white and blue party, and the big ass party for no damn reason. That’s right if the man feels like throwing something for his city he will do it. It doesn’t have to be a reason; you could do it to if you had a master plan to first take over your city and then the world. I remember when I was sitting at home when the commercial came on asking if you wanted a piece of the Slimulus Package, I thought to myself this dude is a nutcase. But for him the mission was accomplished, he had gotten the people’s attention.

suiteSTL: First lets begin by asking you what high school did you attend. You know how the Lou is people think they know you better by what high school you attended
SLIM: I went to alot of them Soldan, Parkway, you name it and I went there.
(We even learned that Slim did a brief stint at our former stumping grounds McCluer North)

suiteSTL: Ok now how did you get into the whole party scene?
SLIM: My brothers had connects with rappers. Whenever they came to the Lou they were hanging around with them. Here I was 12 years old hanging out with men in the industry so you could just imagine how fast I grew up.

suiteSTL: You've been holding St. Louis down for years now what keeps you moving?
SLIM: I've been the only consistent promoter since 2002, you have Mocha now and she is doing her thang, but it's just really been me for the longest. I'm on 24 hours a day I never take a break, cuz there's no room to sleep.

suiteSTL: What would be your biggest regret?
SLIM: That I only told my boys once what I was going to do. I say that because we were on the porch and I said I would take over the city, but I don't think some of them believed me. So some got left behind, but I really wish I would have drove that point into their heads.

suiteSTL: Here people always gossip or speculate about you in regards to what you driving or where you live. How do you keep them guessing without telling all of your business.
SLIM: I am a private person and my private life is just that. You will never see pictures of my house or my kids because nobody wants to really hear about your personal problems. If you're flossing your life in people face if you fall off they can use that to tear you down.

suiteSTL: Why the free parties?
SLIM: You have to give back. Regardless of what you are doing if you can't give back then you really aint doing much. Plus there is no way you can take over your city without giving free stuff away to the people. I'm actually about 3 years behind where I really want to be right now.

suiteSTL: What's next for LooseCannon?
SLIM: Movie, album, and then total world domination. I meant that I would first take over my city and then the world.

Ok (class) so what did we learn here today? Slim loves his city, he planned to take it over a long time ago, he left some folks behind and even though it was necessary he still regrets it, he loves his city, he can give you a party for free because he wants to share his wealth with his folks, he loves this city, and taking over the world is at his fingertips. You have to respect the man's huSTLe! This is not the last time we will hear from Slim, when his much anticpated Album/Movie drops sometime this year, Slim will be back in the V.I.P. with suiteSTL to tell us more about that man that keeps St. Louis talking and others promoters constanly trying to play catch up.

Maybe he was thinking about his loss on Friday night because he sure doesn't look to happy here. Jet lag has to be the reason for the down mood, traveling back and forth can put wear and tear on your lips, I meant body.

St. Louis native Kimora Lee Simmons recently celebrated the upcoming birth of her son with a baby shower. OK Magazine was there for exclusive pictures of the happy couple, also pictured are her two kids from previous marriage with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.

Ced Trying To Creep In Your Livingroom

It's being reported that our hometown boy Ced is shopping around a new television show with Donald Faison. Man I sure hope so because there aren't a lot of black television shows, and whatever network, DO NOT PUT THIS SHOW ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!!! Yeah I'm still pissed at CW for putting The Game on Fridays.

Happy Fri-DAY26

Reality TV is suppose to show you just how real things can get but I think by the time the editing crew gets done chopping things up you don't know what to believe. All the tears and fighting on Making The Band can't really be faked but sitting down with the guys of Day26 gave me an entire new outlook on the groups dynamics. As soon as they stepped through the door the MTV superstars made it a point to shake everyone's hand and introduce themselves, proving to me that despite all that crazy fighting they still know how to act like gentlemen.

St. Louis native Andrea got an early 21st Birthday gift as she got up close and personal with her favorite group

Awaiting the arrival of the Bad Boy artists, were anxious HOT 104.1 fans who won a chance to get up close and personal with Willie, Mike, Brian, Robert and of course Que. The room was quiet while the winners waited after the rain and traffic delayed the group, but once they stepped through the doors you could hear the screams of excitement from all of the fans. I was waiting to see Mike off in a corner being his shy (according to MTV editing) self, but was surprised to see him so outgoing acting like he went to high school with everybody in the room. Willie stood back but it wasn't long before the older women in the room slide over next to the tall smoove cutie.


Taking a break from his seat on the window seal and giving one die hard fan hug, was Robert who shocked the nation with his emotional breakdown during last weeks episode. I'm not a fan of the mohawk but that man rocks it right. There was one person that just seemed to be all over the place. No it wasn't Que, I will get back to him later. Robert was moving around the room like he had about 2 Red Bulls on the elevator up. Que well where do I start. He was not the man I've seen on t.v. But after watching tonight's episode and seeing Diddy send Que away for a "break" I guess he took that time to calm it down and grow up.

First question on everybody's mind seemed to be "What the hell is wrong with Que?" He cleared that up immediately by saying "I'm not crazy and I'm not drugs" I've seen people on drugs before and that man didn't seem crazy to me at all. No I didn't swab him for a test but all we can do is take is word for it and move on. Between taking pics and sitting in on Young Dip's show the group was singing hooks off the new album which hits stores on April 14th. They even sang an impromptu hook to Young Ro's "Dunk That Booty" in the studio and of course some of those St. Louis women took the time to show them the dance (use your imagination for that image). The members stay connected with their fans on Twitter while on the go (yes it is really them updating) but stated that it's the fans that keep them updated on the show. Watching the show is not a must for them since according to them "we lived it" but they do like to stay on top of what the season shows. The guys also performed at The Venue later that night.

The show may keep us all entertained including the fighting and crying but the guys made it clear that they are focused on pushing the single "Imma Put On Her and April 14th. The date when their sophomore album "Forever In A Day". The moment of truth to see if this group that went through auditions, reality tv and life with P. Diddy to a real life Band...Bad Boy Band has what it takes to make us remember DAY26 when the camera's stop rolling.

V.I.P. Suite: Vandalyzm

If someone was to walk up to me and ask who was Vandalyzm I have to admit that I would tell them about the character of him before I speak on his craft. Not to say that he isn’t moving well when it comes to spitting lyrically but it’s just so refreshing to see a young black man this day and age who has something real to say. His mannerism, speaks magnitudes of how he was raised. Like so many others he could have been a product of his environment but he knew that there was something greater in store for him. Vandalyzm may be young and a face to match his wisdom shows through his conversation and knowledge of what many rappers call "the game." For this U-City resident (no he is NOT related to Nelly) his music is not a game, it is a way of life. With no big time money bank or professional athlete funding his music he hits the pavement to make a name for himself and let his talent speak for itself. While a native of St. Louis, the massive respect he (along with other rappers) gets away from home is no surprise.

Suitestl: Before we really get started lets get you familiar with the readers. For some reason we think we can sum up a person by asking, What high school did you go to?
Van: Parkway Central and that was by way of Deseg program. I grew up on CoteBrilliante and Euclid in the heart of the hood.

suiteSTL: How did you get your name "Vandalyzm"?
Van: My boy in highschool just yelled it out and it just stuck

suiteSTL: What direction do you think the STL hip-hop scene is headed?
Van: It sucks it’s horrible it’s at a complete stand still

suiteSTL: Are there any local artist that you think people should pay attention to, besides yourself
Van: Black Spade he speaks some fire

suiteSTL: why is it so hard for STL artist to come together?
Van: Jealousy and too much hating. It’s enough money for everyone to eat.

suiteSTL: what made you want to become a rapper?
Van: When I heard Sally Walk for the first time, plus my uncle was a D.J so I been on the stage all my life, it comes natural for me

suiteSTL: Who are your favorite rappers?
Van: , Big Daddy Kane, Common, and Royce Da 5’9

suiteSTL: Where would you like to be five years from now?
Van: Stable in my music, opening doors for younger artist, and shining light on St. Louis

Talking to Van was like sitting there with your cousin, there was a feeling that he was family. The conversation flowed easily as we discussed his music, St. Louis, and St. Louis women. Although he said that we could quote him on how slick some of the women in the Lou were with their mouths, we won’t go there. LOL. However we would be remiss if we didn’t tell you that you should watch for him in the near future. His sound is as refershing as his strong, positve and honest personsilty.
