Maxwell gave STL a SHOW, heart and all

Singing mainly songs from her latest cd, Chrisette Michele looked and sounded stunning! She opened the concert Friday Night at the Scottstrade Center. Jammin' to a 5 piece band, Chrisette held her own.  Common brought a lil' taste of Chicago to St. Louis. The crowd bobbed their heads and waved their hands as he rapped, two-stepped, and break-danced across the stage. As Maxwell tweeted (during the show), "chrisette MICHELE is LOVE... COMMON is the LIGHT!" And Maxwell was the heart of the show! He was comedic and full of life w/ his dancing and crooning of songs old and new. The energy from all three acts was amazing. The vibe in the arena was that of gloryfing women &showing love for one another!

Taste Of St. Louis Is Back!!!!!

I must admit I got rather excited when I saw this in our inbox. I love Taste Of St. Louis we went a couple of years ago and had a complete blast. I always love the environment downtown when something is going on. I recommend that you wear comfortable shoes and some pants with elastic at the top. Here are the dates and times for this year's event.

Suite Success

When I saw Jada Avenue on the bill for Suite Soul Spot I was sold. I love her voice and her positive energy and great humor made me a fan last year. While I love to support this event I don't get a chance often to attend the 2nd Wednesday monthly event, but I told myself there was no way I would miss Jada on the stage.

Homegirl did her thang in her cute dress which is a new look for the artist that promises to release her EP in time for Christmas. Her song "Vitamin" talking about one man giving you everything you need had me on the edge of my seat. Her songs about love, men and just life in general weren't the norm because the voice that Avenue belts out reminds you of why you love music. The rawness, the originality, and true passion that flows through her voice will make you a fan for sure.

Wildman who is also from St. Louis came on after Jada and did his thang to the fullest. The only way I can describe him is think Bilal without his ADHD medication. He is a talented man and his on stage performance is something that everyone should see at least once. He took his shirt off and flipped those long dreads all over the small stage and gave the folks a true show. The makeshift spotlights proved to be too hot for him because he insisted on taking off his jacket, which got the crowd going and got one fan an up close and personal look. Each time I see Wildman live I like him just a little bit more. He is for sure different and while his style is his own his music is for all to enjoy.

It was Wednesday night, I was tired, my feet were starting hurt and the spotlight I was seating next too was giving me a headache and I told Nicole, Inc that I would only stay for 1 maybe 2 songs by Choklat. Well when this Seattle born songwriter got on stage and hit her first note I was happy I stayed and knew I wasn't leaving until her last note was out.

CHOKLATE, who Nikki Roach, the host for the evening described by using song title "Killing Me Softly" may have reminded some of Lauryn Hill (pre the crazy drugs) but she was more the female version of Eric Roberson with a twist of Common rolled up into a female with a bad ass pair of shoes on. She had us singing along to classics but her own music is what made me truly take notice of her greatness. She was singing so hard she went down on her knees and finished one song, but when she tried it for a second time the speaker fell off the stage, knocked the spotlight off all while she was rocking those heels and never, missed a note. Normally I would have laughed but when she never stopped singing and even made a quick joke about it I was like this sister is the business! She finished her set by spitting a freestyle and even brought "16 Bars" on stage with her and allowed him to do his thang as well. I could go on and on about her and ya'll know I will but I'm going to save it because I'm determined to get Choklate in the V.I.P. Suite very soon.

NEXT MONTH: ERIC ROBERSON. That's right folks MR. ERRO will be in St. Louis on September 9th for Suite Soul Spot at Black Label. Show starts at 8 but if you've ever been to an Eric Roberson show before you may want to go camp outside starting now.

And the WInner Is....

BOOGIE D

Murphy Lee and Boogie D were at The Loft on Friday Night to settle a battle that these two have been talking about over the airwaves of HOT 104.1 and via twitter for weeks. Foreplay Fridays was changed to Fight Night as Mr. U C ME battled Mr. NYC in a PS3 challenge. You would have thought it was an Ali fight going down with all the ish talking and bets that were made. If Boogie D would have lost he would have had to turn over his show to Murphy Lee for a day. But since Murphy Lee went down in a sweep he now will be taking 20 lucky ladies out on a date. It was a different way to start a Friday Night at the club for sure and I'm thinking if these two keep teaming up there will be more unique events ahead. We were split on the support, Jami B was all in Boogie's corner while Cryssrenee supported the Murph or Die Campaign.

STL Hits a HOME RUN

I had a chance to attend the All-Star Home Run Derby at Busch Stadium and I must say it was a great treat. Just so happens it was the location of our interview with Ginuwine for the V.I.P. Suite. The mood was great and although many fans came from across the country to attend the All-Star festivities there was a sea of red in the stands as they cheered on Cardinals All-Star Albert Pujols and St. Louis native Ryan Howard (pictured above at bat) who wears his Phillies uniform proud.

Following the sold out Home Run Derby, we headed over MLB's VIP Gala After Party. This was an exclusive event which included owners and MLB team sponsors of both the American and National League. Kim Massie kept the crowd entertained as they entered on the main stage while the smell of good Italian food from The Hill kept party goers full as they prepared for a full night.

Many MLB players enjoyed the night as the mingled with local stars including a few NFL players who were looking great. I didn't see any Rams out, ok I did but I've learned that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. I will wait until the season starts to discuss my beloved Rams.
There were so many parties going on last night but I was NOT leaving that tent before I saw the St. Lunatics hit the stage. I thought Nelly was the only Derrty Ent member scheduled to perform. So when Murphy Lee tweeted that he was headed downtown to perform I was happy that I decided to rock some flats because I knew I was about to party. Good thing I was able to snap a pic of Nelly & Ginuwine before the show because once Nelly and the Tics hit the stage my poor camera didn't see the outside of my purse. I was having way too much to play photographer. They sang all their hits and I do believe they did more songs than they did at Super Jam. I even spotted Chingy off the side of stage rocking to the St. Louis classics and showing support, so even though they haven't said it I'm going to say that whatever silly beef Nelly & Chingy had is squashed and over so lets all move on from that old topic.

Music Legend Chuck Berry was set to take the stage next but after noticing that my strapless dress was showing some major cleavage I thought it was best to leave before the senior took the stage and I made the old school player lose concentration.

Lafayette Graduate is an All-Star

RYAN HOWARD ALL STAR BASH AT LUMEN

I love twitter. Without it I might have been left out of the loop on the Ryan Howard All-Star Bash. His people were great on making sure that we were in this exclusive event with Red Carpet access. Shouts out to my entertainment mental bff Kenya Vaughn from the St. Louis American for catching me up on what I missed. While I was back at the stadium breaking my new shoes I apparently missed the sexy Derek Jeter.

Once inside I got a glimpse of Ryan Howard thanking the crowd and introducing legendary DMC (of Run DMC) to the packed mixed crowd. There was some of everybody and they cousin up in Lumen. Charlie was doing his thang and good thing too because he had a house fool of folks to please.

After there I headed towards LURE but the traffic jams caused me to make a u-turn on Washington and head home. I don't know what if anything was going on at Sugar but it seemed empty and if anybody knows that guy that was outside with Rob Kirk that yelled some obscene remarks about 1am please let me know so that I can put some holy oil on his forehead right after I slap him.

It's Getting Hot In Here

It's official STL summer is most definetly here and blazing it's heat upon our streets. And I am sure most of you are trying to stay cool and away from the heat. Sure watching t.v. together could be something to do, but here at suiteSTL we encourage you guys to get out an enjoy STL. We will pick several little spots for you and yours to just chill and enjoy each other and nature of course

The Japanese Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden is absolutely beautiful. It's really a serene and romantic enviroment. The garden is meant to be peaceful, pure, and of clear harmony. You have to be a lover of nature to enjoy the beauty within the 4 acres. Now what you do once you get there is on you, but please know that St. Louis City will lock you up if you go to far. Lol

SUPER JAM 2 was a SUPER SUCCESS

With over 15,000 people in attendance Super Jam 2 was a success not only by HOT 104.1 but for St. Louis.

Hot 104.1 had been advertising SJ2 adamantly since the announcement of the lineup. The city was in full anticipation mode as Saturday June 13th approached. Pullin on the parking lot you could see the smiles on people's faces as they eagerly ran to the gates. In our mind they were trying to guess who was the surprise guest. As the music boomed through the speakers SJ2 began at exactly 4pm.

Joka who recently signed signed a deal with DTP started the show early which was followed by OJ the Juiceman and SouljaBoy. Starting a hip hop concert at 4pm sounds a bit juvenille but when you have over 15 artist on one stage it's the only way to do it.

After rocking the stage Soulja Boy he was kind enough to take a picture for us. He showed his appreciation by tweeting our picture to all his followers on Twitter speading the STL love and then jetted off to another show he had in KC. You could hear the crowd as they sang along to their favorite songs. On Pleasure P's "I did you wrong" STL took over the song showing why it stayed at the top of the countdown on Hot104.1.

We absolutely adore the spirit of UnLadyLike as they mingled with the crowd to show that even though they are on the rise they know where it all started. Local artist Aloha who we here has some new music coming and Shorty (pictured above) were there spreading their STL love as well. When Shorty stepped on stage as one of the Surprise Guest he let the crowd know he was now part of the HOTSQUAD! Not sure when we can expect to hear to him but I'm looking forward to hearing him back on the airwaves.

Ludy was part of the STL Mixtape and it was obivious that his relatioship with Grind Up Records has ended because him and his entire crew were sporting "Pac-Stein Records" shirt and his former manager Champ was no where to be found.

Day26 came in and completely took over the interview with improtu singing and dancing. These fellas are a joy to interview especially when they are in amped mode. When asked what's next with MTV and Diddy, Willie responded "we not sure what MTV and Diddy are doing" and went on to pub their current album which is doing well in stores. Not sure what that means but we sure do like those guys despite that a few of the members could use some ADHD medication. Love the way like they treat everybody like they grew up together. No pic could describe this so you all will just have to wait on the video!

Trey Songz took his time during his set and even showed the ladies what he was working with when he took off his shirt. I do wish we could have seen the entire Oceans 7 on stage in St. Louis but hey we still have next year. Yo Gotti and Pleasure P (pictured above) stopped through for pictures and quick interviews. As the heat beat down on the crowd the amphitheatre rocked as if the sun was absent. Gotti loves St. Louis so it was only fitting that the Memphis native drove in to surprise some of his biggest fans. Plies ripped through his set giving away money and putting on one of the best shows with his nasty lyrics and full speed vulgarity.

But nothing could prepare STL for The St. Lunatics in its entirety. That's right people Ali, City Spud, Murph, Kyjuan and Nelly were the biggest surprise guests of the evening after coming out following a custom video intro and although he didn't come on stage with his mask we did see Slo Down off to the side and backstage in his Murph Or Die gear. We tried to take pictures but had 2 stop and dance to some of our favortie hometown jams. The love that was shown to the Tics was incredible. It just goes to show you can travel the world but nobody will do you like your hometown.

Jeezy was last to hit the stage as the headliner and of course he done his thing. We would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge Boogie D and the entire Hot staff who worked hard 2 give STL the love back that is given to them daily by keeping their dial on the hottest station blazing the airwaves.

Soul Searching at The Fox

Sunday Night, The Fox Theater was filled with good music as Chrisette Michelle, Musiq Soulchild, and Anthony Hamilton sang the music that we all love to hear...SOUL.

If you were not there at 730 (cause you thought this was a CP production) then you missed Chrisette Michelle, and such a rare treat she is at the young age of 26. She hit the stage looking casual in a black sequined jacket and black pants. Ever so smoothly she hoped right into her single "Epiphany". The pipes on this young lady is ridiculous. With the soul of a woman who has been through some thangs she sung "Be OK" from the first album and then my summer anthem "Blame It On Me". Which speaks of a relationship gone wrong that she is sick of. Because she was opening she didn't sing that many songs but she blessed us with "If I Had My Way." Which she funked out in the voice of John Legend, Erykah Badu and Anita Baker.


We almost missed Musiq Soulchild trying 2 get drinks, but we made it back in time to enjoy his classics and his rocking all girl band. The keyboard chick scared us a little bit with her hairdo but those ladies did their thang. Musiq also put on one hell of a show preparing the crowd for Mr. Hamilton. They were out of tune on "Who Knows" but he didn't mind cause he was super crunk and was feeling the love he was getting from the crowd. His backup singers really cut a fool during The Proud Mary set while Musiq went off stage. We were a little surprised that when he returned and sang "Radio" he didn't pull Murphy Lee, who was sitting quietly enjoying the concert in the front row, to have him do his remix of "Radio" that was featured on his Mix Tape. He came back just to sing "Love" and The Fabulous Fox went nuts. His ending note was one that I didn't know men were capable of doing. Musiq got busy hands down but that was just the soup for the main corse.


Headliner Anthony Hamilton hit the stage in his schoolboy outfit which included a snug shinny white members only like jacket. At first you didn't notice him because his fat boy backup singer was killing it, dude was dancing like he been battling since childhood. "Coming From Where I'm From" is definitely one of St. Louis favorite songs I could barely hear him singing for the crowd's (and some crazy lady behind me) screams. Several times he had folks (including CryssRenee) in tears yearning for the love that he was singing about. "Can't Let Go" had all of Grand Blvd. rocking and swaying. "Sis Big Bones" had all the big girls on stage shaking their jelly and made Team Chunk stand up. I'm so glad too because this allowed Silky Sol to have her shine moment and she worked that Red Afro right on stage. Silky was doing her thing but I think for one moment she thought she was performing cause she tried with all her might to get that spotlight on her. We ain't made at you Sol do yo thang but don't hurt nobody in the process. Anthony showed those sistas love and even threw a skinny chick or two in the dance. My feet were hurting from going to church Southern Baptist style, but if you were sitting down you know nothing about soul music. He sung of troubles that was going on in his life and he floored me with his connection to his lyrics.
Best concert St. Louis has seen this year by far for us. We may have been the only ones standing for the show but we didn't mind standing out in a crowd of lames that forgot what good soul music was all about it. Shout out to our faithful readers Icee, Miss Dionne, Tiffany and Mz Janee who were somewhere in the crowd having as much fun as us.

Popcorn To Die For

Normally I am to shy to try new things. I stick with the same ole stuff because I hate to waste my money on some bull. I work in Chesterfield and the taste buds out here are apparently different than the West side. I mean I can't even find a chicken place, but that's neither here nor there. So I went to the gas station down the street from here and was looking for some Red Hot Riplets (of course I couldn't find them) however I did pick up this bag of popcorn. I was hesitant at first but I gave it a try. To my heart's delight it was delicious. Surprisingly the place that makes them is just across the river in Il. I had my co-workers eating it and the rest is fat girl history. Lol. Since then I have bought a bag everyday, so I say all that to say this. Pick up a bag please, this is getting the official stamp of approval from 1/2 of suiteSTL. First fried oreos and now popcorn no we are not trying to make you fat, just give you a little comfort.

I spent Saturday at Soldiers Memorial Plaza for the annual Rib America event in Downtown St. Louis. After trying BBQ from Memphis, Texas and Chicago my mouth was all set on some desert. I was thinking a funnel cake or maybe an ice cream cone but nooooooooooooo. I was talked into (ok nobody really had to talk me into this) trying DEEP FRIED OREOS. After the first bite I was hooked on the gooey center which was covered with the same light batter like that of a funnel cake, sprinkled with powdered sugar and to ensure I remained chubby they poured chocolate sauce all over it.

Check The Label

Packed like Club Façade in 1998, BLACK LABEL was filled with everybody and they play cousin on Saturday for Precision LLC, SYGU and Liquid Assets joint party “Day & Night.” For $10 you got some decent music (the DJ was average) and a comedy show. 

I know folks are coming back with some of these trends from the 80’s and 90’s but some of the things I saw on Saturday night really made me feel like I was at Club Façade or Jay’s on The Landing. Straight up Circa 1998. Before the folks at Black Label and the promoters start sending us emails, we not saying that’s a bad thing. Club Façade was always a fun place to be. Never any drama and the folks inside always made you feel like you were at your peoples house for party and Jays on the Landing was known for the wild parties on the patio’s in the 90’s. and Black Label reminded me a lot of those 2 clubs.

We had a good time overall but if these “venues” are going to keep popping up around town and you have a DJ and you want people to actually dance and have a good time, please review your layout and make sure that your flow is right and you have a designated dance floor.

1st Annual Mardi Gras In May

Mardi Gras In May is going to be at Terry Hall Expert Window Tint at 4162 Natural Bridge (at Fair) fromn 2pm until 10pm this Sunday May 17th. Don't fret about the location because security WILL be on the scene. There will also be a live DJ, games, contests, food, drinks, prizes, vendors selling everything from clothes and accessories to a photobooth (you know you want to take a picture in the new May Day outfit) and best of all the premiere models of Fat Cat Clothing Co. This is an adult (21 and up)event so leave the kiddies at home and come enjoy a night of buddies, beats and beads with Bodacious EMP. I may have to check this out the ladies of Bodacious EMP are singing my kind of tune!

Thursdays Are Red Hott

It seems like the folks over at Liquid Assets don't have any plans on slowing up this summer. When I say blazing hot for the grown and sexy you better believe it. Tonight at Lure nightclub is the Greedy Genius Edition Celebrity Launch Party. The doors open at 10 and the ladies wearing red can expect to drink free until 11. DJ Que will be rocking the crowd. And as I mentioned earlier this is grown and sexy so men please leave the white tees and caps at home.

Thicke and Hudson together in STL

The Fox was packed and all smiles as Robin "Mike Seaver Jr." Thicke and Jennifer "I'm might be preggo" Hudson performed radio hits and album favorites. Robin Thicke has some major flavor going on and had the ladies going crazy...until he started dancing. His dance moves may have been somewhat comical but his stage presence and connection with the crowd was undeniable. He did confuse me when he stopped the screaming so that he could acknowledge "Mr. St. Louis". We started looking around for Nelly and Derrty Ent, then Thicke started talking about Albert Pujols. OK. Really? Is #5 really Mr. St. Louis now? Anyway he got my attention back when he started singing a "Come and Talk to Me", a Jodeci throwback. Thicke put on a great show and if you don't already have his newest album "Something Else" which came out last fall you are missing out on a real treat.

Speaking of treats, either J-Hud had a few too many of them before she hit the stage last night or she is preggo. I love me some of her sanging but if I don't see her pop a baby out within the next 5 months I'm going to have ask her team to invest in a good pair of Spanx. Puffy belly or not, the former American Idol contestant rocked the stage and captured our attention with her voice. My new favorite song (until Murphy Lee drops that album) has got to be "Pocketbook". Hudson even brought out a fly red pocketbook with her on stage and playfully hit a willing participate on the front row with it. The only thing missing was Ludacris who is featured on what I'm declaring a hit with all women across the country. Jennifer shut the lights down and walked off stage which had folks rushing to the door to beat the traffic but those that left early missed the best part of the show, when Hudson came back and shut it down with "I Am Telling You", a Dreamgirl classic.

Never have I been a big concert goer but this one was a great show and one I'm glad I didn't miss. There were quite a few other folks who didn't want to miss it either cause the seats were filled with STL's who's who. Several Rams Players were there including Quincy Butler comes to the Midwest after playing with Cowboys. Also two of St. Louis' most well respecting writers, Kenya Vaughn of the St. Louis American and Kevin Johnson from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch were both in the house. I know they were working but with a show like that I'm sure they were having just as much fun as us. According to Johnson's music blog The Blender there are more great concerts coming to St. Louis this summer so make sure you check him out.

Freetime caught on tape

Not sure why people doubt us when we tell them we only talk about the hottest events in STL, not just any event that sends us an email. We get the comments and questions asking us "what type of party will this be" or "I don't want to go someplace where the people will just be standing around." The guys of FreeTime are for sure to give you a party with out any doubt but filled with fun, good looking people and music that keeps everyone on the floor. Education is the Key

The Democrats For Education Reform gathered in St. Louis on Saturday at Harris-Stowe State University for a Town Hall Meeting with HOT 104.1. Demetrious Johnson and Rodney Hubbard moderated the event which brought together educators, national community activist, educators and parents. Charter schools and providing kids with the choice of education became the focus of audience members and panelist. Kevin Chavous, an author, national educational activist, and attorney who resides in D.C. spoke about how he is not against public schools but more focused on giving children a good education. I've heard the argument for years about why people think charter schools are a bad idea and how they claim they don't have any rules or anyone to answer to. The St. Louis Public Schools have to answer to plenty of people and they have been failing our kids for years. Not providing them with the tools they need to be prepared to further their education. Just because you have a Union, a board, doesn't mean you are the best choice for kids and should be the only choice for our kids. 

How do you feel about St. Louis Public Schools and Charter Schools. Is there a difference, should you have a right to choose the right education for your child.

And The Winner Is...

JOKA. It's been a long journey for this St. Louis native but on Saturday when he won HOT 104.1's DTP Madness, Joka was humble and emotional when Ludacris and Chaka welcomed him to the DTP Family. Joka will have a single deal with Disturbing Tha Peace. I don't want to tell Ludacris how to run his business but they really should look at releasing Joka's hit "Swing On 'Em" and add a little DTP magic to it. For some this looked to be a creative radio promotion but seeing Ludacris on hand at the Loft giving feedback to the four finalist, you knew it was the real deal. Chaka Zula, CEO of Disturbing Tha Peace made it clear that he respected many St. Louis artist and always new there was talent in the Midwest. If you missed the show then you missed seeing some good talent out of the four finalist, Young Zone, Rockwell, Joka and J-Var.

The only singer to make it to the final four was J-Var. His sounds was hit and miss on Saturday but his stage presence which including 2 women in the first round, got high marks from Ludacris. The future video girl in the tight leather like pants brought Ludacris to his feet. Overall his show was just ok for me despite him going all out on Signature Coach Loveseat with bar stools to match.

The youngest finalist was 17 year old Young Zone, who happens to be Joka's younger brother. His performance showed he had some serious talent but his youth and lack of experience showed through. His lyrics are his own and his look isn't the only thing that reminded me of Joka. His voice and energy was dynamic and I'm sure with the right coach he will get his own deal soon. Maybe the folks at DTP took note of the upcoming star and will sign him later and put the two together for a duo project!

Rockwell Knuckles made it clear as soon as he got on stage that he was just there to be HIMSELF. His show was refreshing in today's grimy gimmick hip-hop world. His look was plain, while his lyrics were as a creative and inspiring as Common and Kanye (pre bald-headed big booty white girl) with a STL flare that kept the attention Ludacris and the crowd chanting his hook. This was only my 3rd time seeing him live but it was Saturday when he made me a fan.

While not everyone's favorite person won, it was good to see each competitor support the other while they were on stage. The underground stl hip-hop scene supporters were there along with the Entire HOT Squad. I even spotted last year's winner of Koch Mandess, Nite Owl. The Factory Report

Spring is here and so are 2 new clubs. The Black Label and The Factory opened their doors on Saturday for business as 2 of St Louis’ newest hot spots. Mario Wayne (pictured right) was all smiles when I stopped by his new club, The Factory on Saturday for “Spring Training” the first official party of Spring by Free Time and Koncepts. The new 2 level venue was a packed house as Boogie D of HOT 104.1 hosted and DJ OK kept the dance floor paced. The stairs at The Factory and the odd color sponge paint on the walls both made me a little nervous but the vibe was a perfect blend of high energy, and positive people that made my night a great one.
