SATURDAY NIGHT SOUL: Old Rock House

The ladies from Cafe Soul have moved nights and locations. Tonight will be the first of many at the new location, The Old Rock House. This classic open mic will have the same soulful vibe in the new location and also more space and time to keep the crowd happy. 3 is the magic number tonight, 3 great ladies behind this great event, 3 floors to party, and the doors don't close until 3am.

Also if you haven't checked out Theresa Payne on stage please don't miss this upcoming star as she spotlights at the first 2009 edition of Cafe Soul.

Groove Theory Thursdays: 27born Day Edition

If you thought Free Times Groove Theory at EXO was a hot event, make sure you check out tonight's birthday edition with Hakeem Tha Dream. We at suiteSTL are calling it the 27born Day Edition because Hakeem, suiteSTL's Jami B. and one of our favorite readers Carl B. will all be in the house tonight celebrating there birthday which was January 27th - the day when stars are born!

TAKING IT BACK THURSDAYS

I was surfing the net this morning trying to take my mind of all this dreadful snow when I came across this lil gem on Necole Bitchie's blog. Envogue use to be the best girl group of all time back in the 90's. The thing I loved the most was that the whole group could sing. You have to give it to them they still look good in their 40's. St. Louis has finally seen a real winter. Somewhere over the last 10 years I think we've been spoiled since we have only seen 1-3 true snow days each season. It amazes me that people are acting so surprised about the 6 inches of snow we've received over night. It's January and Winter - that's what happens here, it snows. Take the snow like a champ and get your self a shovel, ice scraper and good pair of Timberlands and stop whining. MoDOT advised residents to stay inside if you didn't need to get out but don't let those officials over at the Missouri Department of Transportation cause you to lose your job cause you don't want to scrap your car off. You're going to need to come out tonight anyway because Power Stiletto is still having Power Networking Wednesdays and celebrating the launch of www.SUITESTL.com at the inSpot from 7-11pm. 

Here are some helpful tips to keep you safe during this (mini) winter storm

• Stay properly stocked at home - keep water, food and other needed items at home
• This isn't a NASCAR race -  Drive at a moderate pace and in most cases below the normal speed limit.
• Keep an Emergency kit in your car: Blanket, extra pair of warm clothes including socks, flares (in case you end up in a ditch), boots, water and some dry foods.
• Don't be caught on E - keep you gas tank over a half a tank during this weather.

This time a very very very very very long almost 3 decades ago a young woman and her husband were in the delivery room awaiting the arrival of their son. Yes they already had one but they wanted another one desperately. As the head was crowning the delight that spread across the eldest sons face was undeniable. His little brother and he would have so much fun in the future. However a twist of fate and to the son's horror a little girl was born. Forcing the couple to turn their already picked out name of James to Jami. Ok, so this story is fabricated but this is how I envisioned it in my mind. LOL. On a serious note I would love to say happy birthday to my partner, friend, and sister. Mrs. Jami B it's your day and you are free to be as silly as you please. I am sure you know how to do silly well so enjoy yourself. Happy Birthday!!

STL hearts COMMON

Common was in St. Louis on Saturday promoting his latest album, UNIVERSAL MIND CONTROL which is in stores now. After having lunch with some lucky 100.3 The Beat listeners he was able to relax and really have some fun at Flamingo Bowling alley with with fans who won tickets from HOT 104.1. This Chi-town native was looking super casual and fine in his sweatsuit swag when he rolled inside the bowling alley and interacted with fans like he went to high school with them. For anybody that loves hip-hop you will love this new album which is a blend of his classic style and current sound.

The bowling event at Flamingo was too fun even though my score was nothing like that on the Wii but whatever. Common bowls a pretty good game and so does rapper Mims who also stopped by the party to hang out. Young Dip was trying to show off his skills by bowling behind his back and under his legs and surprisingly he didn't do to bad. Staci Static even put on some bowling shoes and tried to bowl a frame or two but over all I think I had them all beat (lets hope nobody that was there reads this and tells the real story). Monday Memories

I remember when  Kurt Warner replaced Trent Green in a move that many called crazy by then coach Dick Vermil. That was 10 years ago and now the man that St. Louis loved dearly and treated like a king even after he stopped performing will be playing in the biggest game in Sports...but this time for the Arizona Cardinals.
